Championing the well being of one of Brevard’s premier canal communities.

Moorings HOA News Blog

There is always something new going on with the Moorings HOA and the 200+ homeowners in our canal community. Below are a few of the latest posts involving the Moorings. If you have news you would like to share with the community, please contact us at mooringshoa@gmail.com.

Being a dog-friendly community comes with responsibilities

Our sidewalks are avenues of canine connections. Many Moorings neighbors become acquainted and even friends over the course of daily walks with their four-legged family members. Some of these neighborly dogs have earned spotlights for their sparkling personalities, their well groomed coats or their expansive wardrobe. It is also true that some have earned the ire of homeowners who find unwanted organics on their lawns. While dogs will answer the call of nature whenever and wherever it happens, it is the responsibility of the dogs’ owners to clean up its droppings. While this consideration seems obvious and most pet owners happily comply, consider this a friendly reminder to those who do not.

An early reminder for 2026 HOA Dues

The HOA board does its best to collect HOA dues during the 1st quarter of each calendar year. Homeowners can pay by check (addressed to Moorings HOA or Moorings Association, Inc. or by using the secure payment portal on this website. In order to fund ongoing grounds upkeep, equipment maintenance, community advocacy and engagement, and covenants enforcement; each homeowner is requested to pay a non-compulsory fee of $100 each year. Covenant enforcement in particular requires healthy financial reserves to litigate persistent rule violations. Look for notifications beginning in January 2026. Thank you and happy new year!

Beware of coyotes

COYOTE – DO NOT KEEP YOUR Coyotes routinely roam our area looking for prey. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR PETS UNATTENDED!!!!

Tribute to John R. Hillard, Lt Col, USAF Retired

A REMINDER OF THE MANY GREAT NEIGHBORS WE HAVE IN THE MOORINGS Long time Moorings resident John Hillard passed away August 26th.  John and his wife Linda have lived in the Moorings since 1998.  His father built a home here way back in 1971.  Described as a silent hero John led a very full life and achieved milestones few of us will see.  One example, in 1946 a young John was recognized as the first military dependent to travel to Europe after World War II. To read about his fascinating journey check the link below (it’s a really interesting story): https://cardinalnews.org/2025/05/07/a-virginia-cadet-in-the-cosmos-john-r-hilliards-quiet-mission/ John was a proud graduate of Virginia Military Institute (VMI) in Virginia.  He served 23 years in USAF, his parents built a home here in the Moorings in 1971.  John and Linda moved here from Maryland in 1998 to care for his aging father, Lt Col Robert C. Hilliard.  His father passed the same year, but they decided to remain.  John served as president of the Moorings HOA and volunteered for more than 20 years at Patrick SFB and Cape Canaveral as media escorts and VIP tours.

Santa is coming to town!

Back by popular demand, Santa Claus will be making the rounds in the Moorings with the help of the firefighters at the Brevard County Fire & Rescue station 62 on Sea Park Blvd. Wednesday the night of December 17th, neighbors take to the front yards to hear who is naughty and who is nice by the very guy who has the list.
